Must be a devil to balance.

Honda did it in the RC211V GP bike. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RC211V

Looks like VW has done it too. They have a VR6 -1.
|
Yeah....aren't all the piles of current VW's driving around with the "2.5" motor.....5 cylinders? I am 99% sure they are.....
|
vw had a bunch of those at a "green car show" i went to
gutless and :confused:20 mpg |
I don't know about those V's.. Now a radial 5 diesel would be something else! :rolleyes3:D

The 2.5l in 2006+ VW's is indeed a inline 5cyl, but it's unrelated to the old Quantum/Audi 5cyl.
The "VR6 -1" is called (amazingly enough), the VR5! It's out of production now. Here's a sound clip of one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rSn1KCdlxw&feature=related |
That's sad that they have owned the car for 9! years and can't figure out that the car's engine is inline. It would only take a second to pop the hood.
|
That's what mystified me about that posting. If it was just a flip, I could understand never looking under the hood and not understanding general engine anatomy. But if they've really owned it nine years and have never had to deal with the mechanism that makes it go, it must be a mighty reliable car. Odd that he is forthcoming about the seat adjusting motor but doesn't know the shape of the engine. Everybody's got their priorities.

In Europe they also got the VR5. VR6-1 cyl. As I recall they had about 150 HP. -Jason |

GM did a V5 diesel years ago, luckily it never made it into production.

See where the alternator is? Serp belt put so much tension on the alternator that the front bearing would wear out in 10k or less. Picture in your mind, 3 guys taking turns spitting at the alternator trying to put the fire out. Luckily (or maybe unluckily) a trucker with a fire extinguisher stopped and put the fire out. Not one of GM's more brilliant engine designs. |
