Trying to make aux fan work correctly..87 300D

Hi all

With temps above my desire right around the corner, it is time for me to tackle my next task on the list - figuring out what the PO did to my aux fan.

Basically, he had it hotwired to the fusebox so it was running on high all the time. I can't tell for sure, but I think he may have just added a wire and overrode the resistor..whatever he did, it doesn't look right. I undid it, but I'd like to have that fan working on low when I have my A/C on if need be.

Should there be a wire visible? Obviously it shouldn't go straight to the fusebox, but I am trying to figure out if he cut it from where it SHOULD go, or if it is an addition. (Pic 1 and 2)

Based on what I have read, it is probably that my temp sensor is shot, and that is why it was not working properly...or perhaps my resistor? The resistor is under the ABS pump, correct?

Is the temp sensor located at the front of the head? And is the A/C pressure switch the one that is by the reciever-drier?

Another thing that I was wondering, on the temp guage, it the next line after 80C 90 or 100C? I have yet to go past it, but I always wondered...

The low speed resistor is more like behind the left headlight than under the ABS pump. I can't see how to check it without pulling the left headlight.

The low speed trigger is the high pressure switch on the drier. The switch with pigtails, not the switch with spades sticking out of it. The high speed trigger is the 3-prong temp switch on the engine end of the upper radiator hose.

The fan relay is in the relay box aft of the fusebox.
