TDC?

Is there ever a point where all of the valves in all cylinders are closed? Say in a 603 or 606 engine.

No. There are always valves being pushed open to some degree.

Set to TDC on each cylinder

What is the easiest way to set each cylinder to TDC when you do not want to take off the valve cover ? For example when working on the GP or injector to minimize dirt from falling in and being trapped in the cylinder.

You can see number one through the oil filler hole, but that's about it.

You'll have to take the cover off to see the rest.

well, you can figure TDC compression stroke for #1, then rotate the crank the # of °'s separating the remaining cylinders based on the firing order of the motor... lets seee, um, divide by 6, carry the one... um, nope not for me... there's gotta be a chart here somewhere...

That is not necessary. Both the glowplugs and injectors are in the combustion chamber so the valve positions make no difference at all.

that is true but when you want to blow air into the hole to clear out any debree that has fallen in, it is better to have that cylinder at TDC, no ?

How would you blow it out with the valves closed? You would only be moving it around the cylinder.

Clean your engine first.
On the glow plug ream out be sure to use heavy grease on the threads and go in stages backing out and cleaning the reamer and reapplying grease...
Then if you want to use a vacuum to pull anything you think might be loose junk...
