radiator fliud rusty

any ideas on how to get my radiator fluid looking like normal? I ran water through it for several hours with the bottom plug almost off and it still is rusty after I put new antifreeze in it. I have a 1982 240 D

Per the Factory Service manual, you would want to do a 'citric acid flush'. Its a pain, and a full day job.

Be warned though, with things that rusty, when you do the flush you may spring a leak in the radiator. Be ready to have the vehicle down for a few days and you credit card in hand :-)

I just re-read your post. Why didnt you take the block plug totally out? you definitely want to have that out or there is no way you can flush completely.
