1984 injection pump question...
Just finished a heart transplant in my 84 300D turbo and when i changed over the injectors I found a loose pipe connection(Pretty sure it is what its called anyway), its where the fuel lines attach at the injection pump. Not the nut that holds the line, but the connector it threads to.Is this something that can be just re tightened?,or will some readjusting be needed?Anyone know a torque spec on this connector?

The M (Euro) pump has "splines" to remove the delivery valve. If fuel is leaking around the threads of the delivery valve you most likely need "O" ring and copper seal. I have not done my "M" pump but there is lots posted on the subject.

Check the Pics at the below site. I believe the 2nd pic is the M pump. Most of us have the one in the 1st pic.
If you are not sure which pic matches your IP take a look at where the hand primer goes on the Supply Pump. The top pic has that hand primer away from the IP the other M pump had the hand primer close to the IP. Also use one of the numbers in the pics to tell us what is loose. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=123130&M=617%2E912&GA=722%2E118405&GM=716%2E005++++++++++++++717%2E400&CT=M&cat=143&SID=07&SGR=045&SGN=01

Also on my "M" pump the primer pump is inboard of the two fuel lines which have too be removed to replace the pump

Turbo, you have an MW pump. That nut can be just tightened although its indicative of issues inside (why was it apart?). Which cylinder was it?

I believe it was number 29 in the first picture...I tightened it to about 30 ft/lbs

I can only assume that it came loose at the place where I bought it.It was loose when I went to put a wrench to it...only just. But enough to notice. What sorts of problems can it indicate? It was number one

If you tightened it up and the leaking stopped and your car is running fine no need worry on it.
If it is the one that goes to the #1 Cylinder; that is the one they would need to remove if they had retimed the Fuel Injection Pump. If it is another one that was leaking there is know way to know. It is extremely seldom that loosen by themselves.

there was no leaking that I know of ,only because I have not started it yet since installing it.Still reconnecting and part trading.Pretty new looking pump though,so it could be a case of retimed by PO.should have it running in a day or two then I will know more.
