Had an amazing experience at the gas station today...

I was taking my 190E to the gas station today when I noticed that all the pumps were full, except one but I had to back in to take it. I noticed that there was a newer Impala at the pump right next to mine with the guy frantically trying to get his credit card to work or something. I couldn't tell if he was trying to get it to cancel, because this pump was for diesel only, but once he made a grab for the nozzle I knew exactly what he was about to do. Yup, he was about to put diesel in his new Impala. Nice job buddy!

After informing him that he was at the diesel pump, I was shocked to hear him say, "Yes I am aware that this is diesel" to which I said "But you can't put diesel in a gasoline car, you won't go very far!" His response? "This is a flex fuel car, I can run diesel or gasoline in it, it doesn't matter". I was absolutely floored. It was hard not to laugh at this guy! After a few minutes of explaining to him that flex fuel does NOT let you burn diesel or gasoline, he switched pumps.

It was Uncle Sam's car too.

You should have let him fill-up with diesel, since I'm sure his misinformed salesperson told him anything works in his new Flex-fuel Impala... Then he could tell the service writer at the dealership that his new car stopped running after the fill-up... Stupid people need to learn and not put their head up their a##!

^It's an Uncle Sam car, I'm certain he didn't buy it if it's government owned. The plate even proved it.

I was almost about to let him fill up with it, but I'm too nice =]

He did learn because a thoughtful member of Peachparts forum taught him what he needed to know. Thank god everything we learn in life doesn't come with wasteful expense attached to it.

"We" would have had to foot the bill for his stupidity. It's amazing also how well paid these stupid individuals are.

You understand cars. He doesn't. Maybe he understands nuclear physics, and you don't. Maybe he thinks you're stupid too. And overpaid.

You don't know a damn thing about the guy, other than he was stopped from making an expensive mistake because he hadn't been properly educated about something that you may think is obvious, but others might not. Sheesh.

I can agree to a point that insulting the guy is wrong. However, something like what he did in this day and age, SHOULD be common sense. It's not always, but it should be.

All im going to say here, is RTFM. If everyone did, there would be less stupid mistakes.

There is quite a stereotype with government employees that too often re-affirms itself. Of course, there are exceptions.

Gotta wonder how many others have thought and done the same thing, ruining their car.

i guess that's how dealers get more money, tell the customers B.S. and the fact that the word "FLEX FUEL" gives out the wrong message to people

Unreal. Proves how dumb some American car owners are......especially GM owners. Nothing surprises me.

The dummy that bought my last diesel motorcoach filled up in Texarkana at a fuel stop grabbing the green plastic covered fuel nozzle because "all green plastic covered nozzles were diesel." He spent hours siphoning unleaded gasoline from the large fuel tanks.
