Difference In W114 And W115 Radiators?

I have a 1967 230S fintail that I placed an 0M617.95 turbo diesel engine into. I am trying to find a good Mercedes radiator/oil cooler combination to install in the vehicle. The opening on the body where the radiator goes is somewhat narrow (between 59-60cm).

When I was at Pull-A-Part I saw a 220 Diesel, automatic, no AC (looked like a W114 or W115 body style--I think I remember it being a 1969) and measured the opening where the radiator and oil cooler went. It was 60cm wide, so they would fit my car if someone hadn't already bought them. I figured I could cut out the part of the body where the radiator attaches with the rubber donuts and then bolt them in place on my car as an adapter of sorts (because on my fintail the sides are flat and the radiator is held on with bolts).

Anyway, that car went bye-bye and there were 2 240Ds brought in (one was automatic, the other manual, both had AC--both 1974s, I think). I was excited and ready to pull a radiator/oil cooler assembly and discovered both of them were wider (about 65cm) than the last car I saw! So, they would be too wide for my fintail.

Today there was a 220 Diesel there (a 1973, I think, manual, no AC) and I was all excited for the radiator/oil cooler and when I measured them they were also 65cm wide! So, I wonder--do the early 220 Diesels have a more narrow radiator/oil cooler opening than the later models?

Makes you think...
