MB X65 VS Corvette Z06
Ok I know this has nothing to do with diesels MB, but it is just a cool story...
So I was out at the track last Thursday doing some shock testing on my ZX14. About an hour into testing the track starter tells me to hold up a minute these two guys want to race each other. I am not sure what year either car was, but they both looked new like maybe a year or two old. Well I see the Z06 Vette roll by followed by a MB, I had no clue what model it was other than the badge said V12 Biturbo. The guy had his window down and I asked how much HP does the car make?? He said 605hp. I now know that it was a X65. Well nither guy had ever been down a drag strip before so they were both even. We had been testing in the left lane and that is where the MB rolled up to. So I help the MB and Steve helped the guy with the Z06, nither guy does a burn out to heat the tires so it is liema real street race. I tell the guy in the MB if the tires start to spin feather the gas and keep the car going forward as fast as you can. Wellboth guy stage and the lights come down and there both off, here is where I got a shock the MB was gone like a bullet and ran a 12.13 at 113mph in the 1/4 mile smoking the Z06 vette by 2 full seconds. Well Steve a good O'l Corvette lover says lets switch lanes and give him the prep lane, I said sure no problem. So they roll up for round 2 and I tell the guy in the MB to do a real short burn out to clean the tires off, I have no idea what kind of tires they were but them babies got hot and sticky fast. Well they rolled up to the lights and steve told the Vette guy to roll up the RPM and slide the clutch and give it hell once your out of the hole. I told my guy do the same thing you did last time. Lights come down and the MB is off like a bullet again and the Vette smoked the tires past the 60' mark. My guy rolls off the gas and just coasted to an easy win. Just wanted to share that with you guys, now I know what car I want in my garage... Doc. |

smoking tires for 60 feet is not very impressive on the drag strip. would be interesting to see the match with better drivers. I thought those vettes had traction control? maybe the guy would have done better with an auto and the traction control enabled. the Z06 should be a mid to low 12 car easy. if he got beat by 2 seconds something is wrong
