Someone mentioned using synthetic brake fluid. I wouldn't recomend it on a car of this vintage, since it most likely has older brake parts. It has been known to cause leaks in the brake system, such as in the master cylinder and calipers.

Valvoline recanned the DOT 4, it's in a blue container now.

The Walmart Everstart is probably a Johnson Controls, too. On the group 49, if it has the overflow vent coming from the center of the pile (at the top, center of the long dimension), then it's a Johnson. May as well but it there....

Last time I checked Walmart does not sell series 49 batteries which IIRC is the w123/126 battery.

Sams does and their warranty IIRC is 8 years:eek:!!!

They both have them here in Phoenix, not sure if they have them in Spokane, WA where I am going.

It is the 49-1 at Walmart for $ 65 and a 93 at Sams club for $95 which is an interstate branded battery.

I am a big synthetic fan. I will say that since this is an out of town pickup, I wouldn't use synthetics till I get it home. Synthetics usually clean out stuff and then open up leaks. I trust NAPA stuff. I do have their dino oil in my 240D. I am doing a flush or cleaning with AutoR/X. I did replace all of my brake components and use Valvoline Synthetic brake fluid. I also rebuilt the PS pump and gear box and new hoses, then used Royal Purple synthetic PS Fluid. Also, use a diesel rate oil. I think its CH4 or something. The newer diesels need an oil with less zinc, so not to mess up the emmisions. Yours can use the extra zinc.

I shop first at locally-owned independent businesses, Second at automotive parts businesses such as O'Reilly Auto Parts or NAPA and that way I am doing my small part to support the American business supply chain.

The company you mention at the start of this thread is dishonorable to it's own suppliers, has no integrity to honor it's contracts or commitments to vendors, and 87% of it's merchandise is shoddy imported junk from China

The only GOOD reason that I can think of to visit any of their stores is to use their restroom for a warm place to $H!t. Why not? Your local community's tax abatements paid for their building...

Wal-Mart is the scourge of American retail. Find a locally-owned auto parts store. Unless you plan to use the fluids, drain them, and then return them in old milk jugs and demand a refund. Same with the battery. There is no other use for the place.

You do realize that you drive a foreign built auto right? And at least for me, all or most of the parts I use are foreign sourced?

I agree with you in part, but I do shop there on occasion.

I did get the battery from wally world, but the rest of the stuff will come from autozone.

Most of Napa/Autozone stores carry domestic parts...although yesterday when I went to get belts from Napa, 2 were Made in U.S.A. and the other was made in Mexico :confused:

Generally I agree Wally World = awful. One of my good friends is physically disabled and the only job he could get at 16 was at WalMart, he still bashes it for its complete lack of humanity.

Their "selective" in which foreign goods to purchase..........Germany goods are OK...........:rolleyes:

Especially, Bier!!!. Mann does not live by driving a Mercedes only.
