All your fluids from Wal Mart???? 81 300SD
I am traveling out of town to pick up a car and want to make life easy on my friend who is helping me. We are in need of a battery, engine oil, trans fluid, power steering fluid and brake fluid. I am also in need of diesel purge and they have a product called diesel 911.
All of these are available at Wal-Mart, but wondering if anyone would mount an objection to any of the products they sell at wally world. Specifically they have limited diesel oil choices, the aforementioned diesel 911, (will it work as a purge?) and they have Castrol dex/merc. Comments? Thanks |
They sell Rotella synthetic at Wal-Mart. It's a fine oil for a diesel. Use it.

of course.. they sell it

Battery: MB (from roadside service is often much cheaper than the dealer), NAPA (rated the best but also the most expensive), and Interstate - in particular the ones made in Spain - in that order.
For the diesel purge you can pick up Lubro Moly at NAPA. I have not used the product you mentioned. For transmission and power steering I would research here and only use what is MB recommended. And as others mentioned Rotella is very popular. |
X2 go to Napa . . .
|
In my car I use:
Engine: Shell Rotella 5w40 Synthetic Diesel Oil Transmission: Valvoline Dexron VI Full Synthetic Power Steering: Valvoline Power Steering Fluid (non-synthetic type) Battery: MB Battery from Roadside assistance Diesel Purge: Sometimes I will run my car off of a bottle of Mystery Oil to purge it...very rarely though. Brake Fluid: Either ATE Dot 4 (German) Fluid, or Valvoline DOT 4 Most of this can be found at Napa, the engine oil can be had at walmart. |
I use cheapo PS and ATF in ALL my stuff, never had an issue.
I use Castrol GTX Diesel dino in my Diesels, no issues either. I use AutoZone batteries that are made by Johnson Controls that make just about every other battery out there as I understand... including piles of OEM. On the brake fluid look for DOT 4, but 3 will work in a pinch. Just service the stuff and move along. |
What I use in my MB diesel:
Engine: Rotella T Dino (What it's had since new!) Transmission: Valvoline Dex/Merc (Dextron III) Brakes: Valvoline SynPower Dot4 (not available anymore?) P/S: MB OE Fluid Be sure to check the seals on every bottle at walfart, people around here like to return bottles of used oil and its put back on the shelf  |
I found an autozone close by, that is usually where I get this stuff.
I am down with the Rotella, but not sure if I want to spring for synth, I have never put synth in a wiesel. I am lubricating the head and cylinders with marvel, and will dump the rest in the pan. Is there really any differences in the batteries? I see an interstate at Sam's club for 95 or the walmart everstart for 65. I am sure the autozone unit is close to 100. If there is some truth to one being superior to the other, lets hear it, otherwise its wally world. |
Yes, there is a difference in batteries. The autozone batteries are good stuff too....of our 5 MB's....3 of them have the Red top autozone battery....

You have 5? LOL I would like to push that envelope a bit with my best buddy and see how she reacts. :) |
Napa batteries are manufactured by Deka I believe, used to be Interstate. Their oil is identical to Valvoline (just branded differently), and all their filters are by Wix. Don't ask how I know XD
|
On a side note, I do run synthetic in the gassers and recently started buying Pennzoil full synthetic over Valvoline full synthetic and hear/feel a noticeable difference in the engine between the two in favor of the Pennzoil.
