Who has the most miles on there car?
A buddy of mine is looking to buy a 1983cd it is in great shape, but it has about 360,000 miles on it. How many miles wile these cars handle? My Dad owned a 1971 Benz diesel that he purchased with 300,000 miles on it, and he continued to drive it back and forth to work everyday for 9 years. My personal 84 300td has about 260,000 on it and it runs great.
I was just wondering how many miles other people have put on their cars before they went to that big junkyard in the sky? |

As long as rust/abuse/an accident don't kill them, they can go on for virtually forever if you replace parts fairly steadily.
![]() My dad's two W126's both have in excess of 300k.....one is at 306k and the other is at 315k (with a new motor though, but the trans is original on both!) Mine has 280k and has run exactly the same (perfect) since the day I bought it with 207k on it 6 years ago. MB's are meant to run a looooooong time....even the gassers can readily go 250-300k+ with proper maintenance....my 300E just rolled 139k and the engine runs quiet and strong, like new. What it all comes down to is what you are willing to repair/spend to keep it on the road.....in my case that willingness has no limits!

Miles on 300 D
My car is a youngster. There is 190,000 on it. I drive it 200 miles daily, so it will not take long to rack em up.
This is the cheapest car I have ever owned. I keep track of every penny I spend on any car I own. Most cost around $1.00 or more per mile driven. This one costs me $.63 per mile, and this figure continues to drop due to the lost cost of operation. |

We are right at 347748. after next weeks trip to Portland and the GTG, will be 349500 or so.
These are long lived cars, but you do neet to throw some parts at them once in a while. The old 123 & 126 are getting long in the tooth, so the value drops as time go on. Unless you know how to DIY, and have to take one in to be repaired, the repair exceeds the value. the majority of users dump them and buy a newer vehicle. I see these at the PNP from 115000 miles on up (according to the spedo). there is a 83 in our PNP with 189000, not bad looking, looks like garaged in its life, but ended up using WVO by the end user. abuse and neglect is what I see mostly, and PNP buys from the wholesale yards, so we have nice ones you could put fuel in and drive off . Perfect sheet metal for you east coast guys ![]() I don`t even want to know what mine costs a mile .Charlie

422K and the odometer stopped working about a year ago. I am in Virginia right now for 6 months and the SD in question is the car I drove out here from Indiana. Rust is my enemy since my car has always been in the midwest.

While mileage on diesel Mercedes is a badge of honor, and folks just fall over their keypads to list their mileage, you can also search and refer to the 20+ other threads with pretty much this same title.....

I'm assuming guide rails are the slides that keep tension on the timing chain? |

About every 150000 miles and yes the guide rails are part of the job

Mine has 325 showing- but I drove it for a while without it working- and I'm figuring its got about 375k. The rust initiated by my dad taking the car offroad maybe 20 years back has taken hold however and its getting ugly. Otherwise I'd be doing the maint and plan on driving it forever.
