Removing plastic back cover off W124 seat

Hi folks,

Here's an odd one for ya: has anyone removed the plastic seat back off a W124? I'm talking about the molded, shaped cover with the elastic netting on it. The reason why I want to pull it off is that I have this crazy annoying, rapid squeaking sound coming from the base of the headrest shafts. I know something is loose at the base, so I'd like to access it and see if something needs to be tightened down.

There are two screws at the bottom of the cover which i removed. I tried to pull it downwards, but its not going anywhere.

Anyone successfully done this?

Thanks,
Bob

Just last week, I saw a how-to on this somewhere on this website. It was in relation to tightening up the top cord of the net so it wouldn't sag anymore. It involved taking off the rear seat cover to access the net mount points. Can't remember exactly where I found it, but I need to find it because I want to tighten up my net.

Easy to do. Once the screws are out, have a helper sit in the seat and push his/her back into the seat, loosening the fabric on one side of the seatback. Use a small round screwdriver or other to slide in the fabric from the bottom, and pull it toward you/rearward out of the slot in the side-edge of the seatback.

volo, thanks for the link. at least now i know what the other side looks like and comforted that its only 2 screws. what i think is hanging it up from sliding easily downwards is that curved metal piece at the top. I betcha its flattened out a little.

jeff, thanks as always. i hope my wife who weighs less than a buck can exert enough pressure to help remove this piece.
