i'm new to the thread and and have recently acquired a 1977 300d with a power rating of 77 hp and was wondering if you could add after market turbos and posibly even an intercooler, there is a lot that is going to happening to the car when i get back to the states, (in germany at the moment) but if anybody has done anythign to imporove thier car with hacking it apart and making it look ghetto i would appreciate any advice you have, thanks

The non turbo engine doesn't leave much (if any) room for power increase. Your best option is to swap it out for a turbocharged 617. There's plenty of them available in the US.

What he said......anything you do to the N/A 617 will only hasten its demise....Too many differences internally.....if you need power do the swap...

That only workd when used with a rear deck spoiler...

And befor you laugh, I saw a 240D with a aluminum deck spoiler and el cheapo ugly aluminum wheels ( the sort K-mart sold in the 80's) parked outside a dorm for the GW University in DC. I wish I had my camera that day... I haven't seen it since.

Really,

Make sure everything is adjusted perfectly and live with it. Or sell the car and buy a higher powered later car with a turbo. It's simply NOT just an engine change. Unless you find a donor car cheap -heck even if it's given to you. Your time might be more valueable than say the 2-3 k to find a post 1982 W123.
