The San Francisco chapter of MBCA recently visited an interior car refinisher on the Peninsula. One of the tips that came out of that meeting (actually published a month or two ago in the MBCA magazine) was to finish (varnish or whatever) both sides of the wood. The explanation was that finishing one side only, as the factory does, leads to cracking of the finish due to uneven expansion and contraction of the coated and uncoated sides over the years. For that reason, I put a coat of varnish on the back side of my panel before gluing it to the aluminum. Whether I will be around long enough to see what happens is another question.

It's a 2009.

A "reproduction" of a 1939 Hacker-Craft 31' Sportabout, that was apparently never built.

Power is twin Yanmar (BMW) turbodiesels, that thing hauls. idle to plane in 5seconds, rev-limiters in 8seconds.

First photo: hauling out of the water after sea-trial, the only time that trailer will ever get wet.

Second photo: sitting at it's new slip, next to its new owner's 89' Hattaras (the summer boat).

Third photo: packed and ready to deliver to the new owner (except some wire dressing).

Fourth photo: finishing the engine installation/configuration.
