Auxillary Fan issues

I diagnosed the non-op situation on the aux fan...when I pressed on the fan it would turn. I figures loose electrical connection...so I removed the fan assembly, and disassembled the fan.

I did not realize the nut that holds the blades on the shaft are left handed threads...used the impact on it...stripped the bolt and the shaft...did not realize until reassembly...

I did find out one of the brushes was stuck all the way down. That portion is fixed.

Now does anyone have a dead aux fan to part with?

Thanks!

Why not re thread the shaft with a tap/die kit and replace the nut one size smaller? Locktite the nut.

Not a bad idea...I also realized I mis-placed the freaking spacer!

I have not seen a left handed thread tap yet...

Thread UPDATE

Fan wa revieved on Friday---Thanks DAW-TWO!!!!!

The new fan did try to spin up, but was a bit crunchy sounding internally the stator area. So I disassembled this one, and remembered the left hended threading...

Anyway, front bearings were in much better shape than the on the came of of my car (which was a wrecking yard beast based on the blue paint markings).

The armature in the replacement was actually quite rusty on part of it, and I noted a waterline mark on the inside of the fan motor. There was no indication of this on the outside, except for one nut and bolt were rusty, but not fused together, so I do not fault the trusted supplier. I could not see any problems until disassembly.

So I decided to make a good fan out of two since the casing on my fan was in better shape, but the brushes were questionable. I tried to repair a broken brush housing with a zip tie---a mistake...it all went to gether nicely, the fan spun well...so I installed it. A minute later the fan stopped again.... So out it came. I found a melted zip tie and a totally smahed brush housing...

So, I cleaned out all the rust and rust particles from the replacement motor, oiled all the bearings, cleaned the armature, and re-assembled...reinstalled, and it is running like a champ.

Pictures to come soon!
