I don't know either, but I thought that I read that the wagon was the ONLY one in Europe that was turbocharged. I could be completely wrong.

I wonder how cheap this one will go. The only thing about it that leads you to believe that it is euro is the short bumpers. The 61K miles is probably the mileage since the MPH speedometer was put in. The oil drip at the front of the engine is probably the drip tube. If it is, that means the engine probably has excessive blowby, been there, done that.

Have a great day,

Well the TD had the turbocharger in 1981 vs 1982 for the D... I would suspect its a true car, I've seen auto TDs (Turbos mind you) in Europe.... FYI, in 1998-1999 they made a E300T with a turbo motor. Maybe this is the trend, auto, turbo wagons in europe!

What is the big deal about a 300TD-T? Or is it the year that is in question? I have an '84 Graymarket that is turbo'd with a 4-speed auto. The seller is correct they SCOOT!

I know euro 123 300D's were not turbo.. so this one took me by surpise being a 123 300TD and a turbo.. I didnt know they had turbodiesel 123's in europe. A grey market 300TDT is faster than a us spec 300TDT?

The wagon was the only European model offered with the turbocharged Diesel engine in the W123 chassis. They were all equipped with automatics as the manual transmission was not offered with the turbocharged motor, even in Europe. I have the "Preisliste - Personenwagen Und Sonderausstattungen" which is the price list for each car offered in DM and the optional equipment offered (including its applicability for each car) for the 1982 through 1984 models sold by MB. The little booklets are left over from my days of importing grey market vehicles. I believe I have them all the way to 1986 but am too lazy to dig the others up at the moment.

About the only things the Euro models did not have that might affect performance was the exhaust gas recirculation stuff. They may have been built without a/c and electric windows and sunroof, and were not burdened with the extra weight of the DOT mandated safety equipment, like door beams and 5 mph bumpers. These things may make them lighter and spunkier, but to get the car certified you would have to have extra steel in the doors and behind the Euro bumpers, which would make the weight difference about the same as an adult passenger or less. Can't believe that would make a noticeable or even measureable difference. Jim

Dunno?!?

I'm not sure which bells and/or whistles the Americanized versions had. I do have the pnuematically adjusted headlights ( the ones with 3 positions or is it 4) Other than that it is pretty much bare bones, manual windows and sunroof. I just love the 123 chassis, of course I like my 115 too! I just have this thing for the 123 though.

I have read you can get the headlamp assemblies without the vacuum driven aiming feature as an aftermarket item, but the way they came from the factory was with the aiming feature only. It is not listed as an option, which means it is standard equipment. I also checked the sales brochures I kept for the W123 series and the "Grundausstattung" or standard equipment listed for the car includes the "pneumatische Scheinwerfer-Regulierung fuer beladenen und unbeladenen Wagen" which is the pneumatic headlamp adjusting capability to account for loaded and unloaded car ride differences. It is shown in the photos as being mounted on the console just below the dash, next to the driver on the little panel with the rocker switches for the sunroof, rear seat lamp, an optional dual tone horn (never saw this on a US model) and the rear defroster.

I agree with you that the W123 is a remarkable chassis and the W123 cars built with Diesel engines seem to be the longest lived production vehicles ever built.
