IMO, the 722.1xx torque converter has a tendency to lose its driving tangs in the front pump. Also has an adjustable reverse band that likes to back out.

So where is my transmission in this list?

Nice list, thank you.

Interesting that the California version of the 1985 300D-T (W123, OM617), which has a 722.416 transmission, does not appear in the list.

The 722.416 is shown three places: (1) EPC, (2) the factory's 1985 "Introduction into service" manual (Model year 1985, Passenger cars, USA Version, page 97) and (3) stamped into my transmission (see picture).

Hmmm, interesting indeed. Makes me wonder about a. the accuracy and completeness of this list, and b. the difference between the 722.416 and the rest in the '85 list.

What is "EPC"?

EPC is the Mercedes Electronic Parts Catalog here. USA residents can subscribe for free. Even before it was free it was only $20/year.

They do ask for a credit card number to prove you are a USA resident but they don't charge anything to it. Some forum members have objected to the credit card thing but I have not had any problems.

EPC gives you access to every part on any Benz for many years back. You can either put in the VIN of your car or pick from a list of model numbers (for example, 123.123 is my 1985 300D-T).

I've had a subscription for 2 years... and there have been no charges to my card. It's really fantastic that they give you access to this service!!!

Agreed. One of the reasons that the local dealer's parts guy and I get along so well is that when I come in to buy parts, I have with me my VIN, a picture from EPC, and the part numbers I want to order. It makes their job easier and they respond by helping me if they can.

the '85 190D only shows 722.403

From what I can tell, that is an auto trans... didn't this car come with a five-speed as well? What is the number?
