300SDL wheel bearing?

Hello

I have a problem with my 300SDL.. it just started about a week ago. When I
make a sharp right turn, my rear left wheel makes a loud, hollow droning
sound for about 2 seconds while accelerating then goes away. The sound is
very loud and unpleasant but only makes noise when you make a sharp right
turn. I think I hear a very faint squeeking while the car is driving from
the same rear wheel. Any ideas?

Thanks, John

Jack it up and wobble the wheel to see if there any play.

The bearing could be loose, happened to me on the front of my 220D, easy to tighten, allen key, but don't tighten too far.

Bear in mind that this the advice of a backyard mechanic, not an expert.

There is no adjustment on the rear wheel bearings like the front bearings and I understand the read wheel bearings are difficult to replace and require a special tool.

I had a rear wheel bearing go bad in TX and I didn't know it had failed until the brakes didn't work because the pads were rubbing on the rotors and were so hot it melted the plastic wheel cover. The bearing and spindle were so chewed up I had to replace the entire wish bone assembly. Luckily I had one out of a car at home in PA and my son sent to me in TX so the only part cost was the $75 overnight UPS fee. Labor was only $150 for an all day job. When I go thru Alan Reed TX I stop and say HI the the mechanic.
