'82 300 Wagon Central Locking System Question

So, like many of you, my central locking system does not work at the moment. When I hooked up the rear hatch (wagon) lock to my Mity Vac, I was able to make the lock go down (into the locked position) but when I switched the Mity Vac to try and make the lock go up it would not budge. Does anyone know if the lock actuators are fixable, or do they just need to be replaced when they stop working?

replace them, but find out which ones are bad. Ther is one in each door I believe. You'll see that the rubber fails.

Those actuators are not repairable - the earlier ones from the W108 chassis are. George Murphy sells the diaphragms for those and the actuators and his prices are quite reasonable. I bought a whole set for my wagon (three door actuators and the tailgate). I recall them being about $30 each or so. His email is perfanalysis@comcast.net

The fuel door one is expensive, but luckily mine was still good. You can always just plug the line to that one if it leaks and locking the fuel door isn't important to you.

Never thought of this question before. What happens if the unlock circuit for the fuel door fails?

I believe it's covered in the owner's manual, you can actuate it manually.

Yes, there's a manual release behind the first aid and tool kit panel.

On the wagons at least (don't know how the sedans work) the fuel door is locked by vacuum and unlocked by a spring. So the unlock circuit doesn't unlock the fuel door.

However, if it gets jammed, you can manually pull the lock up from the first aid kit/jack storage area.

The w123's don't have a separate pump. The vacuum pump on the engine provides the vacuum and there's a vacuum reservoir under the rear cargo area that operates the locks when the engine is off (if you look under the back of the car, it looks like a big egg-crate shaped thing)

Well that explains it then. I was wondering why there was a vac reservoir back there.

Thanks
