Selling my 240D in Denver

Had lots of fun, but my wrenching days are limited. It's always been reliable, but old cars needs lots of TLC. It's listed in Denver's Craigslist.

1 hour later...

I get this response on craigslist...

Quote:
Good day,

I saw your item on craigslist, I want you to consider it sold,Pls do
withdraw the advert from CL to avoid disturbance.I am okay with the
condition and price of the item and am ready for its purchase.I'll
be paying you with a Certified Bank Check or Cashier Check and the
payment will be issue out to you Via Ups Courier service. I'll be
responsible for the pick-up.Once the check clear your bank, my mover's
will come for the pick up at your place.I will need the following
information to issue out the payment......

1.Your full name................to be on the check

2.Your home address(Physical)....Not P.O.box

3.state/city/zip code.................

4.Your phone number

** Please note that the payment will be overnight to your address and
it will be delivered within 3 days.I will also wait for the check to
clear before i have my mover come for the pick up.
Is this a scam? I've heard of this, and how the interval between check clearing is longer than most people think....

Yes, it is a scam. You might want to consider posting your link in the Craigslist thread. Also, put an ad under the Classified Section for Cars on the forum.

The check they send you will be for more money than the purchase price; they will want you to refund the difference. Naturally, when you do; then the check they gave you is bad.

Yep, obvious scam. Don't even reply. I got several of those when I was selling my Rav4 on craigslist in February.

Not so fast, you may want to reconsider. Now, you may not have all the time in the world to want to deal with this, but . . . when I placed my last car on Craigslist and received the obligatory Nigerian scammer response, i decided that the longer I drew the whole affair out, the less time he/she would have to hassle/cheat someone else and, furthermore, perhaps some reverse harassment might serve to discourage said scammer from scamming so much. So, if you have the time, you might enjoy taking this dirtbag on a little joyride. Just make it up as you go - keep in mind the limited grasp of the English language they will have and it will be all the more enjoyable. Here is a website from some guy who apparently has far too much time on his hands, but uses it to scam the scammers. These examples are not car related but, nevertheless, they might give you some ideas to work with. http://www.dumbentia.com/gallery_scammers.html
