Viscous clutch and Fan wobble
 

Hi, I've noticed that I have a noticeable wobble in the cooling fan when it's running. I think it's also making a ratcheting noise.

I've determined that there is a gap between the water pump flange and the viscous clutch. I can also feel the fan move back and forth parallel to the axis of rotation when the engine is off.

I've looked at the schematics and it doesn't look like I'm missing any washers or anything like that. However, I would like to fit a rubber washer right between the flange and the clutch to hopefully eliminate that wobble.

About a year ago the viscous clutch bolt got loose and the fan came off the pulley - broke apart and broke radiator. So I'm kind of weary of having a loose cooling fan.

Does anyone have an ideas on this?

Your fan blades my be all bent up or atleast one blade.

Feel around see if anything feels loose with belt lose.

I agree with Tango forget rubber washers.

Thats why for $60. I installed a Mustang 3800 cfm E Fan.I have the AC fan wired in case main fan quits.I bought mine from Jeg's suppose to be good for 8+ years.Also freed up some HP.

I might have to go with that option. I kind like quiet operating engines...

That has to be one of the top ten reasons folks drive diesels!!!

Electric fans all the way! I turn mine on an average of once every 2 weeks, for about 5 minutes.

OEM for me like Tango.
