Oil coming out the oil fill cap

I finally got my car put back together today. I took it for a test drive and all went well. When I got home after about 10 miles of driving I popped the hood and found some oil that was coming from around the the oil fill cap. I did not have this issue before. This is the first time out since I adjusted the valves a couple weeks ago. dont know if that is related.

While the oil cap was off, did you happen to leave it sitting upside down? Sometimes the oil from the bottom of the cap moves around when you do this and then comes out when you put the cap back on. It isn't very much oil though.

This must have been the issue. We took the ca out for dinner last night and drove about 25 miles. I checked when we got there and again when we got home and there was only a tiny tiny bit of oil that came out. Nothing even close to the amount I saw the first test drive.

Thanks for the help!

Or redefine the "problem" into a "feature". Think of it as active corrosion prevention.

I normally put a little grease on the gasket to get a better seal, especially if the gasket is getting hard.

Yes, wheel bearing grease is a great solution.

Did you get the breather hose back on correctly?

oh yea, you mean the smoke stack ? I pulled that hose off and it reminds me of the stack on the old steam locomotives!

this was my first thought, too much pressure and it was forced out the cap, but the tube is fine.

Up next, figure out my air in the fuel.... I bought a helper pump to install to hopefully remove some of the vacuum in the fuel system.

There is a rubber gasket under the cap that can be replaced. look in the Buy Parts Tab above for you yr car. think they are about $2.50 - $3.00. easy Fix. don`t throw away your cap. I think the new ones are the black plastic.

I usually set my cap on a rag when I remove it, and then wipe off the under side well before replacing it.

Sometimes mine seeps a little, when I 180 it, no leak.

The rubber elbo on the "Smoke Stack" is also a replaceable part. new one`s are pliable rubber, not hard plastic like my old one.
