Rebooting W123 Axles
I've read lots of threads about this, and I'm more confused than ever. I have cracked, but not split, axle boots on the '85 that are doing just fine. I want to re-boot my OE axles as part of a rear suspension rebuild.
I read through the FSM, and Ive seen this: http://boostnbenz.1baddsm.com/DIY/CVboots/ I've also seen this guy: http://www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf?swf...odules=1&hqt=1 I dont have a 10 ton press, and I certainly don't have the tools talked about in the FSM. But I have seen accounts of just putting new boots on with grease (or oil). Whats the best solution here? Just reboot if they are doing fine? If I take the axles to a good Benz indy will they reboot them for less than rebuilds cost? DieselGiant goes for the Flexx Gun...http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedesaxleshaftbootreplace.htm Thanks for the direction... dd

Flexx Boot Axle Repair Using Cone
Although sprawled, this thread has the answers: - Dorman Boots (PN in thread) - Autozone clamps, Autozone clamp tool - installation funnel from Astoria - Gear oil to refill each boot I think I spent 5x time searching and reading than it will take to do the job...I hope.

The boots are very thick. Surface checking would not worry me. I never do anything about them until they start leaking, then I change the whole half shaft.
