W126 Strip Party Boston Thanksgiving Weekend

New member of the family, briefly at least: 1981 300SD

Rusted body, I want the engine and rear end. I don't know how much of the interior is good. It's quite damp and musty in there. Dark brown interior. I know the driver's side electric seat adjustment works, and drivers side window. Trans appears to work well.

Needs to be gone by the 30th. If anyone wants anything, let me know or come and take your pick Thanksgiving weekend. Let me know what you want and I can try to tell you if it works, and if I want it or not. Everything's free except trans, although forum members can get it cheap.

Hey, you are closer than Iam. on the map it`s only about 2 inches

stripping a car has got to be more fun than eating Turkey, Stuffing, Sweet potatoes, Pumpkin Pie and Ice Cream.

The excercise will keep you from getting fat, pudgey and lazy.

You all know, I could host one heck of a strip party, but you would have to take stuff with you. I'm trying to get OUT of my storage unit, remember?

I could use the left front caliper if it is a Bendix. Mine gets a little tight and should be replaced. I am nearby in Acton.

Heres my thread for what I'm trying to fix on my 240D.

Don't Tell Me What I Can't Do-with Photographs

The 300SD's isn't a whole lot worse. Maybe fixable, but certainly not worth it. There are a lot of rusted areas that are visible and shaped, so very hard to fix well. I haven't done a thorough inspection of the floor.

Does anyone know where to hook the chains for the 617? Does it say in the FSM?

Does anyone know how to take the instrument cluster out of the W126? How about the differential, is that like the W123 or not?

The instrument cluster is a friction fit, it just pulls right out. If you don't have a set of dash tools (or don't feel like making some out of a coat hanger) the easiest thing to do is just take off the speaker grille and speaker above it to the left. Then you can put your hand in the hole and push it right out from behind, then disconnect all the connectors.

As for the diff, I think it's pretty much exactly the same as on a w123. I don't know if the rear subframe on a W123 is the same, but I think the procedure would be this: open up diff, remove c-clips to remove axles, disconnect diff mount, disconnect flex disc, disconnect diff from rear subframe, done!

Good luck!
