california w126 / 87 300sdl
My 87 300SDL is a California model. Whats different about this car, and what options might I consider un-california'izing?
Havent mad much luck with the search today, I'll make sure to post any forum links I do stumble across as I continue researching this topic. |

the cali 300sdl's originally had trap oxidizers. mine doesnt, and my understanding is you'd be hard pressed to find a running one with the trap oxidizer still installed-- they were recalled.

Can someone post a picture of a trap oxidizer? Mine runs fine but I think it still may have it. It has a muffler at the rear, cat near the middle and something near the front of the exhaust pipe that also resembles a cat.

the trap ox looks like a football on the top passenger side of your engine.if it was replaced you will see an iron manifold in that space.

Iron manifold with some silver heat shielding on it
87 MY 300SDLs got the same emissions package as federal cars. As I have said in my other posts it's not legal to defeat the emissions control devices like the ARV and EGR by plugging the single vacuum lines that go to them. -Jason
