Hi Everyone,

For the 2nd time in 5 days my 1999 e300 TD will not turn off.

All of the lights flash, you can hear the engine revving and losing power, the digital outputs flash (radio, heater, etc...) and the key is "locked" in.

The only way to get it off is turn leave it in gear and turn it off but the key is still "locked" in. Letting go of the brake will let go of the key.

I found this thread that mentioned a vacuum shut off valve:

Is that what I am experiencing?

You have an electrical shut-off valve, but that could be the trouble.

It just happened again. Since last night's incident, I turned off the car today at least 9 times without incident.

I did have my phone with me just now so I did take a video; here's the link (if you have the sound up you can hear the engine changing pitch):



I did figure out that just can't be out of gear but it has to be in "reverse" in order for the car to turn off, tried it in "drive" and it kept going.
