Vacuum Pump needed for 83 300D Central FL
I am in need of a good working vacuum pump for my 83 300D. I am hoping to find it in Central Florida so I can come by and inspect and pay. If there is not a used one or if everyone would recommend a new one only then please tell me the best place (price quality) to buy one. Thanks Wayne

I have an extra piston style vacuum pump that I'm not using. I bought it to use on my 240D, which came with the diaphragm pump originally. Unfortunately, it interfered with the power steering belt, so I had to take it off (after driving 500+ miles home with no power steering). I'll sell it for twenty bucks plus shipping, but you can probably find one a lot closer.

Unless yours has mechanical damage, why are you replacing the entire pump?
I believe we have the same pump and it is very easily rebuilt with a minor kit.

I agree; after having one fail and cause a bunch of engine damage, I would never install a used vacuum pump.

Thoughts: I am thinking that if you rebuild with the minor kit (I am assuming the kit that only replaces the Piston Seal and Valves $60-$70) the parts that can fail and damge the Engine are left untouched (these parts are in a different and more expensive kit). So to do a whole rebuild you need 2 kits; the total cost of which cost close to the cost of a new Vacuum Pump that has a warranty. There just does not seem to be a excellent cost effective answer. Then out side of the actual Vacuum Pump is this: New Vacuum Pump Ruined due to too much Timer Bearing End Play (the title from my notes). http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=258062&highlight=vacuum

Thanks for the input. I think I am going to go with a new pump and not risk a catastrophic engine problem.
