I didn`t know Packard made a aircraft Diesel, but did know the Germans made some about that same time frame.

I think it may be a 2 stroke, only has 1 valve per cylinder. It was developed about the time the Detroit 2 stroke was first made.
They have flat 4 diesels now >> subaru 4wd diesel.
