When I did the verticals on my rear quarters, there was remains of something that looked like a trim adhesive. pretty dried out, but it was there. I didnt put anything new, and it didnt really come off, so I left it as-was, and the strips stay in there perfect... But these seals are arguably more important and more likely to see water, so it may make sense to do another step...
