124 Ignition Tumbler Help
Help!!! My key is in the ignition, it is turned to run and I can't get the tumbler to move out of the run position. If I turn it to the left I can forc it to turn off the electrics, but not far enough to turn the car off. Used the shutoff on the engine to stop the car. Also it won't turn to the right to start the car.
Does anyone know how to get the key out?

The position that the key is in now is the position for removing the tumbler. I don't remember whether it is position 1 or 2 but you are at or close to it. There are threads and pictures of the procedure on this forum somewhere. You insert a wire tool (homemade if necessary) into the two holes in the lock bezel and the tumbler will come out. Then you can get a new one from your dealer.
Others have posted experiences wiggling the key for hours on end, using an orbital sander to vibrate the lock while cautiously trying to move the key, etc. The key will not come out unless it is all the way to position 0 "off." If you break off the key you will have to have the lock removed professionally, an expensive job.

OK I got the tumbler out,but I cannot remove the key from the tumbler. The dealer is quoting $100 for the tumbler. Does this come with a new key?

Get the new tumbler from the dealer, order it by the VIN and you will not go wrong.

Congrats, you are lucky. If you order the new tumbler & key using your VIN, it will be a match for the other locks in the car. No need to carry multiple keys.
