A slightly different soultion, although still an indirect diesel.....
A fellow over on Oilburners.net under the Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI section has installed that Ford/International diesel in his Bronce, and his son's F150. Traveling to the IDI Rally last year, the F150 got OVER 30 mpg! Rather good for a full size Pick Up. The Bronce also gets good milesage, but he runs that on a mixture of (free) WMO, diesel and mayne even some RUG.

a side business? Nah......just an extension of my MB hobby. Did you see my storage bay when you were here? I'm going to put everything in my storage unit in the back of it. Then start stripping the parts cars. I could do an "MB parts tour" and travel around to all the GTG with good quality used parts.

Or maybe something with a little diesel twist on it?

Or maybe both?

And I promise. Pics are coming soon. I forgot to take some yesterday
so, I'm going at lunch time to take a few. I hope they find the keys.
I might want to actually drive it over to my storage bay to load all the stuff in it.

I'm hoping I can get 30mpg in a Dodge Dakota. Do you think that's possible if I keep my foot out of it?

Took some pics of my Step Van today at lunch. I didn't buy the stuff in the back. They are going to clean it out next week.

From the photos shown it looks like a radiator hose is off ,did the seller describe its running condition? The block alone is worth a grand ,the 4bta is a work horse with long service, up in the 400k at times. The jeep cherokee comes to mind for its transplant.Mileage plus comfort with a healthy size suspention for bumps in the road.Is it a stick or auto trannie?

This is my recipe for a diesel $hitkicker

-take one 1990 toyota 4runner with a leaky, worn out 22re
-take one 1986 toyota 4x4 pickup with a 2l diesel engine
-remove engines, cooling systems, exhaust & bellhousings
-put 22re in the back of the pickup, have towed away PRONTO before Mrs Notfarnow gets pissy (save aluminum wheels though)
-put 2l & bellhousing in the 4runner
-frig with wiring for a few hours
-drive out
- Measure once, cut twice, apply bondo liberally to make into a 4dr, short bed pickup

Last driven a year ago --- they started pulling parts off of it to keep others in service. I can't see the pics at the office, did I post the ID plates? I also got the name and number of the mechanic that use to service these things --- I'm hoping he will give me access to the records on the engine. The shop guy wants me to rebuild the engine while I have it out ---- I'm hoping it only has 10K miles on it since the last rebuild.

After they clean it out, I'll tow it to my friends shop. I'm glad I got rid of the other stuff. He's onboard with me stripping the other Mercedes and storing parts in the Step Van at his shop. And after I get out of my storage unit, my wife will be very happy.

First thing to do is steam clean everything. Note to self --- be careful of the missing power steering pump (shaft driven = hole into back of front of engine).
