Walmart batteries

I have a group 49 EverStart battery from Walmart in my 300D and it does not have much cranking power or duration. Maybe I killed it when I left some lights on and drained the battery. How many 10 sec bursts of cranking (with 5 minute rests in between) should a healthy battery be capable of? How many amps should the 300D turbo starter motor draw?

Anyway, the group 49 EverStart is $65 (being discontinued) but I did not have my receipt (which you're suppose to have for an exchange) but luckily Walmart allowed me to pay $10 to exchange it for their better group 49 Maxx battery which is $75. Hope it's a better battery.

I have cranked the living hell out of the white MB batteries with no ill affect, those things are built like tanks.

My friend has the old battery from his dads S600 in his E300D...its 15 years old! Still works fine, at this point he wants to see how long it lasts until it dies.

Walmart batteries are not bad, you should have a sticker on it indicating the month and year or manufacture which they can warranty from.

I buy them for my cars because they are cheap and I get no hassle returns anywhere in the country.

they actually have wallmart white mb style batteries and the group 49 at my wallmart. next battery to die gets a wallmart forever replace battery from me...
to answer your question, a fully charged good condition battery should crank a 617 for at least 10 attempts of 30-45 seconds at a time with no slowdown. if you can't do that, you have frozen dino 15w40 oil, or MASSIVE compression and a stuck on glow plug controller, or your battery is not fully charged or charging.
I have read your posts about your electronic skills, so I KNOW you have a good meter, measure the standing voltage on your battery, it should be no less than 12.75v and while cranking it should not drop below 9.5v
if it does you have a battery problem.

I just bought a walmart group 49 because I was in the middle of NE and mine was starting to act up (the voltage would occasionally jump down to about 10v like one cell was shorting out). It was cheap and available, we'll see how it holds up.

I've used Walmart for everything up till now. Wty pretty good if you keep the paperwork. I've not had to install a battery in the diesels yet. Interesting question!

I DO know that batteries have all went up in price!! OMG!!! My local Interstate guys have been a HUGE help on my motorcycle batteries so I may try them in the future for the next car needing one. Walmart is just the closest place.
Also the local u-pull-it salvage yard sells batteries for $10-$20 when available.

Has anybody tried replacing the sulfuric acid in their battery?

I'm reading where the sulfuric acid is 1/3 and distilled water is 2/3 of the solution in a battery that makes it work or charge. Once the acid gets weak, the battery will not hold a charge. If the plates corrode, then the battery is toast. Can anybody confirm any of this information? I've just about had it with buying $100.00 batteries and all that is in the battery is a little sulfuric acid and distilled water.

that's the beauty of buying the walmart 75.00 top of the line batteries! you NEVER have to buy one again. just swap it out every 3 years or less... forever.
