I am not sure what to make of what I'm feeling, but its become more pronounced in the past 2 weeks. While traveling to the beach 2 weeks ago, I began to feel what I can only explain as a wobble, only while cornering to the right at highway speeds. I don't feel it so much in the steering wheel as I do in the actual direction of the car. I even seem to have to correct for it, as it tends to push me towards the outside of the turn, meaning my correction is to turn harder.
My first thought was a possible bad wheel bearing, maybe in the left front wheel, with enough play to create that scenario. However, today I jacked up the car to feel the play at each wheel, and low and behold, the left rear wheel has much more play than any of the others, which have very little to none. My previous benz, an 80 300SD had the same wheel bearing go bad, and being the ***** of a DIY job that is, I now use that car for parts.
What I'm wondering is, could this play in the rear left wheel bearing be what I'm feeling in highway speed cornering to the right? I don't remember feeling this in my previous 300SD, though my steering in the current 300SD has always felt different. What other factors should I check? I just got quoted $500 for a rear wheel bearing replacement by MBI Motors here in Portland, OR, and I don't want to put that much cash into a car that needs new injectors and transmission work, among other things, including the fact that 2 days ago, front passenger window regulator broke clear in half some how....
