Question Combination Switch

I need to replace my combination switch to get my high beams to work to pass inspection.

does the steering wheel have to come off?

if so, how to remove the airbag?

looked up many threads that start out on combination switch then change to something else.

thanks

Steering wheel off, yes. Lower dash covers off, yes. First extend steering column fully.

Unhook battery to prevent airbag issues. Remove torx bolts securing airbag from rear of steering wheel (recessed). Mark position of wheel on steering shaft, remove allen-bolt in the center of the wheel, remove wheel. Takes some leverage, I usually pull on the wrench with one hand and push on the steering wheel with the other. Protect the wheel or you'll scrape it with the wrench.

Not a difficult job, an hour to two, depending on how nice your steering wheel leather is and how stubborn the center bolt is.
