Well here she is, it starts and runs but real rough. The motor shakes pretty bad. Im not sure what to do next, where is the ovp on this car? It does have one right?

No OVP

No OVP.

Engine shakes- motor mounts collapsed?

As for any recently purchased diesel, change the two fuel filters, and run a tank with Diesel Clean or the like. Install a new air filter. Change the oil & filter.

Now take that trailer over to Kansas City and buy the 91 300D with the turbo 5 cylinder on Craig's List for $600. Swap in the motor and tranny. Then drive it and just try to wipe that silly grin off your face.

I just checked, and it looks like it's gone.

In the first picture there is a box right below the fuse box, I opened it up and it looks like there is something missing. Does something plug in there? The rest of the pictures I was trying to show you all the oil all over the place, where is the oil coming from?

God knows y'all deserve some kinda Springlike Temps.

Oily Mess= Cleanup and then Watch for the source.

mplafleur 03-13-2010 08:34 AM

I need to find one of these in a few months.

Clean the engine and then look for the source.

04 Diesel 03-13-2010 08:46 AM

Does anybody know if what the black box is? Should something be pluged in it?

04 Diesel 03-13-2010 10:06 AM

Ok I found out where all that oil is coming from, I took the oil cap off when the car was running and I have very bad blowby. Piston rings? Stuck valve? Any help would be great, and there is a pretty good tapping noise also.

Also the motor will not turn off with key, I know it is vacume. In the pictures is the vacume pump, there is a hose missing. Where does this hose go to? I cant find it. Maybe someone has some pictures? I know, Im looking for a service manual.

The missing electronic part is your auxilliary fan relay pn 0015425919

chasinthesun 03-13-2010 10:25 AM

Valve Tappets are needed most likely .Your 2.2 has blow by but runs strong? Check compression to make sure your not wasting your time with her.Ive had a 2.2 back 3 yrs and loved the economy of that little car. Id check to see if theirs a vac diagram avail. on this site ,this would help you on diagnoising any further vac issues with the car.I would assume that would be a hose to the shut off on the f pump. Its a bit hidden on these car with the air cleaner and the intake above the unit.Good luck.

vtmbz 03-13-2010 10:43 AM

The hose you mentioned splits into four and goes everywhere--

Not having aux fan relay might be related to the po thrashing around trying to fix an overheat.

FWIW-- my 2.2 has lots of blowby but runs really very well. Not an eager starter below zero however. I had a tappet noise that cleared up after a period of frequent oil changes and lots of above 3300 rpm driveouts.... but a rough running engine is a bit of a different thing.

If you put your hand on the exhaust manifold when cold, and wait for a bit you can tell which cylinder is not heating up, and thus not firing as it should.

I think you have a lot of oil escaping from the breather tube; there is a grommet there that gets all hard- especially if the motor got hot in the past.

I would pay 500 for the body alone...
