Grease in the Vacuum Pump?

I just bought a parts car ('83 300D-OM617), in part because it has a brand spanking new vacuum pump . The PO told me that his mechanic packed the back cavity of the pump with grease. Never heard of that. I was under the impression that the little lubrication the pump needs was slung in from the chain/timing device.

What do y'all think of this?

I've never heard of anyone putting grease in the pump. The inside of it gets engine oil, so I wouldn't imagine that it needs any large amounts of grease.
