Yes, someone already pointed out that the 2nd T is used for parts ordering, etc. Still doesn't change the model name.

I thought 300TDT meant 300 series, turbo diesel, touring ....or maybe 300 series, touring model, diesel with turbo ...."touring" meaning a wagon
the gas wagons are 300TE ... 300 series, touring, and perhaps some german term for petrol/gas that starts with an "E"

The TD designates the T123 or T124 (as opposed to the W123 or W124 which is the sedan).
However, my title, retistration, and Mercedes' information designates my '87 turbo-diesel wagon as, ... a 300 TDT. The badge on the hatch has the 2nd T across on the other side, but I'm happy to argue that the official designation for any turbo-diesel Mercedes car of this era does in fact include a T suffix. Thus my sig cars' designations, seemed non-confrontational.

I use the T to razzle some of our more active members. I get a kick out of it

Let's all remember; just because some clerical person within Mercedes {probably a secretary or pencil pusher} arbitrarily decided to incorrectly utilize a Rogue T doesn't mean we have to. The Rogue T is for amateur hour!!
If we want to know the correct terminology for our cars, we step out from behind the wheel, walk around to the back and duly note the Trunk Badge of Truth, a very sacred part of our cars. {poor European market who did not have badging} There is also the badging of the hatch of wagons, but we still utilize Trunk Badge of Truth nomenclature for standardization and clarity. We can't dilute our battle cries now can we?
