Anyone de-stroke a 3.5 l S-class? Makes a 3.2L
Just wondering if anyone here has this experience!

Explain how that would work. Reducing the stroke would also dramatically lower compression levels, and the engine would likely not even run.

On a side note, I think a 3.5L 603.970/1 crank with a 3.0L 603.961 rods (installed either the 3.0 or 3.5 block) would make a pretty good torque motor. Theoretically using this combo will alter the rod/stroke causing the piston to remain at top dead center longer creating more torque. But all this would work if you can make customs pistons for the correct compression ratio and won't burn up. . |
Shortening the stroke will not change the TDC time, still making a circle on the C-rod end.
As far as torque, should reduce torque as the lever arm is decreased. However, typically better for high RPM. |
The extra torque of the 3.5l is very nice, I wouldn't want to lessen it. When working correctly the 603.97 is a very nice driver.

Yes if you put 3.0 crank in it- you put 3.0 l rods in it too. Thought that would be obvious. The reason is the 3.5's have reliability problems because of the bore/stroke ratio. Factory for a time had beefed up rods and pistons. M |
