Fasteners

Between previous owners and myself, several of the interior screws are in the wrong spot or missing altogether. I usually label bags when I take out screws, but I was in a rush the other day and half of my lower dash and center console screws are missing or ill-fitting.

Where do you guys buy replacement screws? WHen I was in VA I had no problem finding any sized wood/sheet metal screw, but up in NYC it's a different story.

I am pretty sure a lot of folks go to dealers, and I'll bet they have all you need.

But I have been able to accumulate spares/extras on a few trips to junkyards.

I have a habit of ziplock bagging odd items "just in case".

So if you are up for it, find a wrecking/salvage yard with a few old Mercedes and scavenge some screws for later use.

Go to the parts forum, email someone who's parting a 124, ask him to save a bag of dashboard fasteners for you, I'll bet you can buy them cheaper than dealer.

Or if you have junkyards anywhere near by you can hit one up. Also, occasionally folks post a, "I'm going to the junkyard what do you need?".

Ace hardware. They have a metric fastener section. Might find them there.
