Mis Fire

It only happens while the car is cold, especially at initial start. It seems to mis fire, a nieghbor heard it. He quickly said it could be the valves need adjusment. What can cause this mis fire at idle at initial start?

Check your glow plugs to make sure they are all heating properly, if one is not heating that cylinder will likely misfire until it heats up enough. I can't see what car/engine this is but if it is an om617 like a lot in here, a valve adjustment is never a bad thing to do.

Thank you! I think one is bad, I replaced glow plugs several years ago after I got the car, all except for one (the last one). I planned on adjusting them as soon as I get familiar with the process, the car is reaching 100K miles on it.

Check glow plugs, and all fuel lines and fittings. A small air leak could also cause that issue......ask me how I know.

Here is a link to bone up on getting warm and cozy with your valves.
Keeping them adjusted is important for a properly running engine.

Mercedes Diesel Valve Adjustment Procedure

My guess is you have a or some inop Glow Plugs.

I've never really liked the way he describes how to orient the came lobe and I think the picture he includes is confusing as it appears that the came lobe is pointing straight up. You want the valves pointed in such a way that the large side of the lobe is aligned with contact surface for the rocker. Generally, this means that the small end of the lobe will point approximately at the camshaft oiler.

See this diagram -
