retro-air cleaner?

This may sound like a dumb question but... Is there any way to change the current W115 300D air cleaner over to the other ( like on my 123) style air cleaner? The way I see it is this, if I get that big 'ol trash can looking thing out from that front corner and put an air filter on top of the engine I will have enough room to install a second tank under the hood in place of the "air can".

I should be able to get about a 6-7 gallon tank up in that corner pretty easily. ( this would keep my lines much shorter with less exposure to the elements and less chance of the oil cooling before it gets to my pump) Shorter lines decreases likelyhood of problems! Tom

Tom:

In short, maybe. The air filter housing from a W123 won't fit, I don't think, and you would have to change the manifold, and that won't work, either -- different governor. Leaves you with a custom setup of some sort.

If you want more fuel, put a tank from a W123 in the trunk, if it will fit. I knew of a guy in the early 80's who lived in LA -- had someone put a 50 gal tank in the trunk of his 240 -- went to Mexico one a month to fill up! Got 35 mpg, 70 gallons, you figure it out!

Thanks Peter!

Thanks for the reply! The tank I was referring to was going to be for an oil conversion. I was going to insulate it and preheat it with my coolant lines so I could run straight veg-oil. I can put the tank elsewhere that is not a problem. I was just looking at that area because I could use shorter lines ( they have to be preheated too) it was just a way to cut down on fabrication costs.

I gotta run, I have to go and pickup 120 gallons of fryer grease this afternoon! Tom
