SLS 360 Roll - Don't think my diesel could do it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=JP&hl=ja&v=-45p_rKMKsw
Shorter version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izrNv4nMxAg&NR=1 I have a feeling this is not real. Seems like the tunnel lights would get in the way. Impressive video though. I don't think I will try it with my 84 diesel, even after new injectors and an ALDA adjustment.

Love it... but it doesn't seem real (or even possible) - laws of gravity are not optional even for Mercedes SLS... Awesome car...

Seemed too theatrical to be real, but it's definitely possible. If some may recall, Jeremy Clarkson did it, albeit not as smoothly, in an underpowered Renault.

Yep, he did do it in the little Renault. This video, however, looked too smooth to be real. I wonder how many crackheads are now going to attempt this in their local tunnels. Who, me? Why, of course not!

My Father, the smartest man I ever knew, explained to me how planes fly. The air on top of the wing is less dense than the air underneath. Nature abhors a vacuum (and so do I when it comes to these door locks, mine are now electric) and so the air underneath the wing attempts to push itself upward into the less dense area...causing lift. If the design of the car includes a wing (a spoiler for those in Boca) which it did, then it is entirely possible that the car could be driven upside down for as long as the necessary speed and lift was available. Considering he was upside down for less than a second, I have no problem believing that the commercial is legit.
and I'm kinda turned on by that video.

I wonder what the actual specs of the ramp angle and length of the roll is. They probably won't release it.
I am sure a diesel could do it too but the angle of attack in the tunnel would have to much much higher. It is an interesting equation with known downforce or lift added to the centripetal force of the car going in a circle, gravity, friction, heat etc......a perfect iPhone app!! |

Of course it isn't real. That's just not how productions nowadays work........

I'm pretty sure lift is insignificant--it's almost all centripetal force. And since centripetal force is dependent on velocity, not acceleration, I bet the diesel could do it with a manageable angle, it just needs a lot more room.

But getting back to the diesel, a Hot Wheels corkscrew track would do it! That has the correct angle... .
