Looking for vacuum leak on OM603

I've finally had enough, and decided to find the leak or bust! Here's one candidate: the aft connection (right-side fitting in the photo) on the injection pump. Is this the ELR actuator? It does not hold a vacuum even for a moment. Should it?

I finally found a picture of this part, and it appears to be the VCV, so I think it is indeed the culprit.

The vacuum leaks on the 603 are typically in the EGR or ARV systems on the right side of the engine.

If you find the vacuum pump, and the small hose that extends upward out of the pump, you'll see a five way connector. Two of those hoses go to the right side of the engine. Disconnect those hoses and replace the five way connector with a three way "F" connector.

Your vacuum leak issues should disappear.

Did that a while back, but today I found the VCV to be very leaky. Didn't realize until too late I really didn't need to drill out the rivets, just pop the plastic top off. Took two tries to get it to seal, but now it seems to be fine. Planning a test drive this evening. Crossing my fingers that hard shifts are gone!
