CODE PO215
I have owned a 1997 E300D for the past 7 months and put 4500 miles on it. It now has 106K miles on it. I have run it on B100 which I make. No problem until 3 weeks ago the CEL came on. The code was PO215. the vehicle HAD NO problems. Code was cleared but a few days ago the CEL came back on with the same code. Only this time the engine takes about 1-2 seconds to turn off after key is turned to off. NO other symptons. The fuel lines at the SOV are all dry and so is the SOV. NO leaks whatsoever. After reading several posts from 2008 should I just replace the SOV and the K40 ??. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The delayed shutdown usually points to the SOV or more often its oring; the K40 usually causes shut down whiledriving, or a no start when it fails to open.
I'd replace the oring first because of the cost of the SOV. On the turbo, one can reach under and pull the SOV out with lines attached. Takes 10 minutes. Have to flip the windsheild washer bottle out of the way for access.

Terry thanks for the response. You mentioned I should change the o-ring first even though no visible leak is evident as opposed to changing the entire SOV. Is this because an AIR leak at the o-ring can cause the problem. THANKS IN ADVANCE. Ps it was your posts from 2008 that were helpful in letting me understand this p0215 issue.

A leaking oring can casue the delay. Usually there is fuel leaking out, but, a minor leak might be small enough to only allow air in and allow the valve to shut too slowly tripping the code.
You don't list your location.....if its gotten colder at the same time the code began tripping, it could be your fuel. May be too thick......? Can put one jar on the kit counter, another in the freezer, and a 3rd outside by the car and observe what happens to their viscosity the next morning. The bad K40 and shutdown ("as if key were turned off") while driving, usually does not throw a code as the K40 also powers the ECU which cant register the fault when power is lost.

Had a feeling a small air leak would cause the problem. Will change the oring on Monday when I am off. Ilive in Ocala Florida and we have not had any cold weather yet.
Thanks again. |

Was going to change the oring today however my wife who drives the car informed me that after an 18 mile drive yesterday the CEL went out and has stayed off since. Car still works fine and no leaks. Guess gonna leave well alone. Wonder if it had something to do with the biodiesel i put in.
