Not sure what model to buy

So I just sold my 96 E300D because i need the money. I still have an 81 240D that has a tired engine, and a california model 85 300D that is close to perfect condition. I have been thinking about selling the 300D and getting something else. I have been thinking about a 190D with a manual transmission. I just love the manual trans, but I have never actually driven a 190D. I am not sure hoe fast it is, and how reliable, etc. I also love the comfort of a w140. So i have been looking for a 350SD. I know they have engine problems, but I just like the look and comfort. Not sure which route to go down. I was hoping someone would have advice from past experience.

Were I you, and tight on cash - I would sell everything but the; "85 300D that is close to perfect condition."

In general, most people with multiple vehicles and tight on money, have no idea how much it is costing them a year to have all these partially running, dust-collectors around. If they did - they'd never own all of them.

If any car won't get you to and from work - it isn't worth much, all things considered.

Ditto. How much do you pay to insure cars to sit in your driveway? I own 2 cars because when you have old cars like these it's always good to have your backup car ready to go and save the day, which has happened to me more times that I care to say. But if you need the money, I think it's best to sell anything that's not really necessary.

Well the good thing about NH is that we do not require insurance. I am going to be getting rid of all the other car, and just keep the 300D for now. I do like driving standards, and the 240 is a manual that I could potentially put in the 300D, but i have never attempted this and also I would not want to be taking out a perfectly fine automatic.

X2 on the close to perfect car. If the 240 is tired with a manual and you don't need to insure it. Keep it for emergency back up.

My father told me this
"No car is cheaper than the one you have"

I really like that!

I should couch my comments about multiple vehicles as any other than pure parts cars are going to cost you money over time. Now, some people have numerous project cars - that they are 'going to get to' someday. Those are future costs to you. Whatever floats yer boat in those cases.

You seem to let emotions determine buying decisions. Broke people should not be buying anything. The 85 is in "near perfect condition" so keep that. It don't matter that you like a strait shift. You "need money". Drive what you have.

Regarding insurance, are you saying that you will drive without it or simply let it lapse & not drive the car? Disable the car if you drop all insurance because you still have the liability even if someone steals the car & causes damage.

Good input. I generally assume everyone knows that, but it never hurts to point it out on occasion.
