190D Trans Prob.

Hi, Have a 1985 190D 2.2. Transmission was perfect but then one day would not shift into 3rd. Took to mechanic and they replaced the vacuum modulator in the trans. and this worked fine...for about 20 miles, now it is doing the same thing all over again...

Can anyone imagine what is happening here, so I can have a clue when I speak to these guys tomorrow?

Thank you!

For kicks, disconnect the bowden cable from the throttle linkage and see if it shifts to third and fourth. It'll shift pretty quickly to top gear with the cable disconnected unless there's something else wrong with the transmission.
