Hey what about me, I am right here in West MI (grand rapids). I could give that car a nice home.
We've saved cars with bad engines and put them back on the road, so getting that 190 back up to snuff would not be an issue. I could pick up the car very quickly. Just let me know. I may have even seen the car around.....I know there's a couple 190's in muskegon....and several here in grand rapids that I have seen driving around. |
I'd love to have it and I'm stuck drivng a GMC POS truck right now. But I also agree with those who think Roy might be the most deserving candidate.

Oh well, I live in Florida, which City you usually visit? I'll love to have it for my son who loves my 84 SD.:o:confused::)

very interested in your 190e!
hi, i'm Sam Vandenheede, i am located in niles, mi, and i am very interested in your car. I've been looking for my own car for some time now, and, yes, this would be my first car! I have loved cars since the day i was born and have looked forward to owning my own car the as long as i can remember...I am seventeen, and as of right now i have been driving my dads 300d, I love the car!!! we got our first one about a year ago and have absolutely fell in love with them. i cant even imagine owning my own mercedes diesel, it would be great!! i also love working these cars, i cant get them clean enough! rest assured this would be a great home for the car!
thank you!!, Sam Vandenheede....... by the way dvandenheede who commented earlier is my dad. |
I kneel before Roy, he is our Guru, the go to guy for any question no matter how obscure and time wasting. For instance, "Hey Roy, which one of the Beatles didn't have a beard on the cover of the 'Hey Jude' LP?" You can rest assurred that he will know and he'll tell you.
That being said if for some reason he decided he didn't want the car (Roy winning the lottery springs to mind, it's a win-win) I'd give the 190 a good home. I can promise that it will live indoors (in a garage) and it will be mended. I can promise it won't ever suffer from bad rust, nor will it be wrecked with stupid driving. I can promise that (for better or worse) I'll be the guy working on it when it needs help. And guess where I go for advice... ;) But, Roy (and probably others) have first dibs. |
From one Chicago native to another? :)
It would be daily driven, it would sit outside and get beat on by the elements, but it would be maintained anally. It would also be used to drive me to school and back everyday, so unlike other guys I would actually drive it. |
;)Who's Roy? you should give it to me -ill catch a pane tommorrow.;)

That sounds like a heck of a deal
I would love to have it but really don't need it with my 300E 5 speed and converted 240D with 4 speed now almost finished with the install of my good running 617 Turbo. But I am getting old and tired and with a heart problem couldn't do the job of converting my 240D. So I enlisted the help of my neighbor, a young man of 23. His name is Dan and he is a super mechanic. He spent the last year of his home school involved and working with Allison Corp. His plan was to become an automotive engineer. But plans change and Dan is s super student now starting his 3rd at IUPUI, (Indiana U and Purdue U) at Indianapolis in pre Med. Last year I helped Dan buy his dream car, a neglected 1984 Porsche 944. Well, it has given him pretty good service, though going to work at St. Vincent Emergency one hot Saturday afternoon the Porsche clutch gave out. He had it towed to my driveway where he got the clutch out the next afternoon. Found a place in Texas that made him up a new clutch for $80.00. Check that against the prices you see on Porsche clutches. Well, it took two weeks to get the clutch, but again on one hot Sunday, smoking hot out there, he got that clutch installed. He didn't know he needed a pilot tool, then we couldn't rent the proper one, so he made one and it worked so well. But that 944 is rather hard on fuel, at least it's not a mileage maker, so when ever possible Dan runs his motor cycle for the fuel mileage. We and his family would love to see Danny forever off that bike, but it's about a 75 mile daily round trip to school and the difference is 18mpg to better then 50mpg on the bike. Danny has been a super help for me in parting out my old Blue 85 300D and installing the engine and drive line into the 240D. Nothing is to hard for Dan. With limited tools and equipment he will find a way to get it done right. We are well within the range to drive down and tow it back same day. Danny is not a member of the Forum, but does read it often. Danny would come down with me to pick it up and get the title. He no doubt would join the Forum the first day he owned any Mercedes. He has made a number of "You Tube" videos on Motorcycle repair. I am sure we would see many made with that 190D. When he was finished with High School, Danny wanted a vacation. What did he do? He heard about an orphanage in Bolivia that was in really bad physical condition and had no maintenance man. Danny went to work as a volunteer for six months at that institution and really improved things a lot. Boys like Danny deserve a lot of praise.

Wow, some interesting candidates and stories, I knew this would be an interesting thread.
I'm glad that it's not me deciding. |

I vote danny.

I think the OP should let this run for a few more days and then start a poll and everyone can vote and then he can decide from there?
lol Someone deserves it.. I already got my free car. |
Well, I would throw my hat in the ring for a safe car for my daughter, but it looks like Roy could use the wheels and has the contacts to get her together. With the price of gasoline these days Roy has to be pulling his hair out with every fill up. I had an older Ford and they are thirsty1!
|
You all are making it sound like Roy lives on the street and has no transportation! I am doubting this is the case, I've been to his house on multiple occasions.....last time I was there he had a classic Rolls in the garage. :D
However, he'd be a deserving candidate for it. But I am closer. :D |
PawoSD, you may be closer, but I am cuter!!!!;) but on a serious note, my Heep Jeep is going to end up like the cop car at the end of the Blues Brothers movie, not that it really needs doors.....
