Giving away my 1984 190D, still going strong but a serious welding project.

I've been a part of this board for almost 10 years and I've owned my trusty '84 190D 5-speed since March of 1989. However, I have not really driven it in a LONG time. I do take it out every once in a while and have run it to Florida over the past year. It runs great, but, alas, the clutch hydraulics took a dive (I haven't even take a look to see what it is) and it could use a new brake master cylinder or actuator (brakes could feel WAY better).

Anyway, I have decided to let it go FOR NOTHING, as long as it is to someone that will keep it going and keep it on the road. YES AT NO COST. You have to come to Western Michigan to pick it up, and with any hope you keep it going on the road.

Its always been an AWESOME car for me, but if it sits longer, it will only get worse, not better.

Anyway, I also reserve the right to select to whom I woudl like to give the car to after receiving any replies. I will make my decision by November 1, 2010. Again, my reason to give it away is to not see it go to a crusher, but to give it to someone on this list that actually might appreciate the fine vehicle that it is.

Thanks

this would be THE car to replace my aging 85 VW jetta 5 speed... similar mileage, BETTER power, and class. better car by a long shot.
weather might make me put it off until spring. november in your neck of the woods is not kind to travelers.
I'm in on the interested parties for the car.
I have to sell my 83 TD, and SD to make room in the parking garage... no problem.
got pics you can email me? I can promise the car will be preserved, used, and not crushed EVER!

I'm in Millwood, WV. Would fix it and drive it to church until I expire and give it to my grandson unless my wife wanted to continue driving it. I like to do mechanical type work on vehicles. pdmsampickens@gmail.com.

This thread is going to be an enjoyable read, the 190 fans will be coming to the party!

Maybe the passing of the torch (car) should be coupled with a W Michigan get-together and swap meet.

Some sort of giveaway, where the owner gives an obscure way of selecting the "winner?"

I'll pay for the car's cartage to my home, as long as it is in good running condition, driveable, and comes with a clean/valid and transferrable non-salvaged title.

jobah,
Its a bit far for me & the steering wheel is on the wrong side!

I hope you look closely at those who express interest. Happy to PM you with my choice & why if you want. Its probably not appropriate to have a poll of members though, that may detract from your act of kindness.

There are only a relatively small number of members on here that most would agree are Peach Parts Icons. If you look back on posts of theirs over the past, you will find that some are happy to give their time to help others, not only with advice but also with their time and labor.

Your offer can only be described as the act of a true gentleman.

We all look forward to finding out your decision. Maybe that member should run an ongoing thread about the car so that we can all see how your act of kindness is being respected.

Good luck in your decision making.

What a great gesture. Bravo to you, jobah. I agree with layback40, that you should read over posting history of the interested parties to make your decision. That will truly tell you to whom you are entrusting your beloved 190D.

I would throw my name into the running, except for a few good reasons:
1) I would not be in a position to work on it once my wife had thrown me out of the house.
2) The garage is too cold to sleep in with winter coming.
3) I do not have room for another car.
4) I do not have time to care for another car.

May it go to the most deserving forum member.

If you have a GTG for the handing over of the title and keys, I'll try to make it there. It will be a joyous event.

Richard

Heh, Roy is closest, the MOST helpful member, and the BEST mechanic and Mercedes specialist.
if he wants it, I formally withdraw my name from the running!

although, I think it'll last longer in the south than in Detroit!, keep that in mind Roy if you are interested in getting the car!
