190D question

What was the last year they made the 190D for the US market and did it have a manual transmission?

I have never seen a 1993 190D. I would like to have the 2.5 Turbo with the 5 speed. Was that configurations sold in the us and what years.

The 2.5 turbo was only sold in the US in 1987, and only in automatic. You could get the 2.5NA in a 5-speed though.

what years did they make the 5 speed. When it comes the the space of the car, it does not seems to be much different then the w123. It appears to have the same seats and similar interior. Maybe a smaller trunk.

I believe it has a little less rear-seat legroom, and possibly headroom, but I've never had a 123.

The bigger difference is in driving the car. It is a much more responsive and powerful car, much more fun to drive. The '87 2.5 turbo automatic was a 9+ second 0-55 car, pretty quick, and with the 2.65:1 rear screw it (mine) can get high 30s mpg regularly and even into the low 40s if you really baby it.

The W123 is way bigger than a 190 in every regard.

It has a decent size trunk for its size, but as Paul mentioned, it wasn't called the "baby Benz" for nothing.

As it happens, I have both a W201 and W123. While I don't have precise measurements, I can give you my impressions from driving each.

Front seats: you sit up higher and with much more apparent room in the W123.

Rear seating: not that different, surprisingly. A little roomier in the W123, but not overwhelming.

Trunk: W123 is much bigger in every dimension.

I have the 2.5 NA motor and the 5-speed manual in the W201. It is quite zippy, or at least it feels like it! My 240D gives a good effort (also a manual 4 speed), but would not match the W201. I was originally going to only keep one, but here it is four months later and I still have them both...

Kurt
