Radiator upgrade?
 

I will need a new radiator for my 1984 300D soon. Is there any radiator from other models, that is bigger or more efficient than the stock '84 300D radiator, and will fit into the stock mounting space?

My guess would be not as I suppose you've got an oil cooler to contend with on the drivers side?

You don't indicate what climate you're in. My experience is that the stock radiator on these cars is more than adequate as long as it's in good condition. These are iron head engines that can take a lot of overheating without ill effect.

To my knowledge there is no radiator that would easily interchange. If you feel that you need more cooling capacity you might check with Griffin and see if they offer anything.

Yes, the iron head can take a lot of overheating without ill effect, but how about the head gasket? Can it take the same amount of abuse like the iron head without failing?

May be you want to consider an electric fan then? (I'm sorry if this suggestion causes a passionate debate)

Provided you have good flow through your coolant passages, a good t-stat and aux fan, I don't see why this would be an issue.

I've run both the Nissen's (cheaper) and the MB Behr radiator in Texas heat with the A/C running full blast without issue. Granted Phoenix is hotter, but "it's a dry heat", right?
